“It seems this year’s selection is stronger than ever, including a mix of returning filmmakers, past winners, and first-timers at Beldocs. “This year’s international competition is once again composed of outstanding and diverse films, continuing our tradition of discovering bold and distinctive voices in contemporary documentary. These eight films from around the world—about people, animals, and nature—showcase creators unafraid to face the most beautiful and the darkest realities and carve from them magnificent artistic works. Watching them on the big screen in the presence of their creators will be both a grand and intimate experience,” said selector Igor Stanojević.
The program will also feature screenings in tribute to two film greats: "The State" by Thomas Heise and Guy Girard’s "David Lynch: Don’t Look at Me", offering an intimate insight into the filmmaker’s creative process.

Beldocs has established itself as a key gathering place for film professionals in this part of Europe, thanks to long-standing collaborations with leading global and European festivals and numerous players in the international audiovisual industry. The Beldocs Industry Days program will feature workshops, masterclasses, pitching sessions, and other events aimed at developing new projects and networking filmmakers.
From May 22 to 27, selected films will also screen at the Yugoslav Film Archive, followed by Q&A sessions with visiting filmmakers.
One notable date—May 25 at 6 PM—is reserved for the 30th anniversary screening of Želimir Žilnik’s "Marble Ass" (1995), followed by a conversation with the director. In the film, based on his script, transvestite Merlinka (Vjeran Miladinović) engages in sex work in an attempt to “pacify” the Balkan men of the turbulent 1990s and encounters Johnny (Nenad Racković), recently returned from war but still resolving conflicts with bullets or knives.

Two Basque films — "Maspalomas" and "Sundays" — have already won over both audiences and critics, while the French film "Couture" has brought together Jolie and Garrel.

Two films from Dag Johan Haugerud's trilogy were shown in the anniversary program of the Free Zone festival. Both "Sex" and "Love" address fundamental human needs, but exploring these themes from different perspectives is especially intriguing.
